Mother s Day rocks at South Fayette Township Library | News

The sky always should be blue for Mother’s Day, but in Western Pennsylvania, Mother Nature often has other ideas. And so an art project at South Fayette Township Library commemorating this year’s special day didn’t go exactly as planned. “Maybe when it’s a sunny day, it really will look colorful all around and the display will look really nice,” art teacher Selva Priya said. “But the weather is not cooperating now.” Nevertheless, she and her students persisted through alternating sunshine and showers to complete a special installation in time for mom’s special day. Opening June 4 and wrapping up June 14, the festival will still have online elements, but festival mainstays like live concerts and an artist market will be back, though in altered formats. Sponsored by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, it will mark the first time in more than a year that some of the Cultural Trust’s theaters, galleries and arts venues will have their doors open. “The biggest change for the Dollar Bank Three Rivers Arts Festival in 2021 is the layout and footprint,” according to Sarah Aziz, the festival’s director.

Part of Fort Duquesne Boulevard will close for five months to make room for more events in Downtown Pittsburgh, city officials said Thursday. The closure will begin Monday and run through Oct. 7. The boulevard’s westbound lane the side closer to the river will be blocked off from Stanwix Street to Seventh Street. The partial closure of the roadway along the Allegheny River will allow the Pittsburgh Downtown Partnership to “host various events and activities to boost business in the Central Business District,” Tim McNulty, spokesman for Mayor Bill Peduto’s office, said in a statement.
