Lenovo s venerable ThinkPad X1 Carbon has been one of the longest-running of the company s trusted business-class laptop series. Now in its 9th generation, Lenovo sought to re-energize the X1 Carbon not only with Intel 11th Gen Core Series processors (Tiger Lake), but with Intel Evo certification that brings with it a number of key refinements. The machine that we have on tap for review here today also includes an impressive new 16:10 format UHD+ (3840X2400) display.
Meanwhile, Amazon chose today to announce that it will stop charging extra for its own CD-quality and high-resolution tunes, effectively upgrading all its paid Amazon Music subscribers to Amazon Music HD.
Amazon Music offers more than 70 million tracks in CD-quality audio, including 7 million songs in 24-bit high-resolution quality.
Amazon Music HD used to cost $14.99 a month, or $12.99 a month for non-Prime members. With today’s announcement, though, Amazon Music subscribers can now enjoy lossless audio for just $10 a month, or $8/month for Prime members. Amazon also has a $15-a-month family plan.
Amazon’s prices are equivalent to Apple Music’s, which cost $10 a month for individuals and $15/month for families.

By the time Microsoft introduced laptops to its Surface range, it d really figured things out. From the premium build quality to the high-end performance, Surface Laptops have never failed to impress. This year, there s been a slight shift though with the introduction of AMD s Ryzen processors. Better? Worse? Any noticeable difference at all?
Let s just back up the truck a bit and assess this thing from scratch and see where we get to.
The Microsoft Surface Laptop 4 is an impressive-looking device, straight out of the box. Over the last decade, the Surface brand has really gathered momentum and the sight of those four embossed squares in the centre of the lid tends to mean there s something pretty special underneath.
Update 13.1 for the Sonos S2 app is available now, and among other bug fixes and improvements, it adds the ability to tweak the volume of the Sonos Arc’s height drivers when listening to content with object-based Dolby Atmos sound. You’ll find the setting by navigating to
Settings > System > Arc > Height Audio on the Sonos app.
Like other Dolby Atmos-enabled soundbars, the Sonos Arc delivers height effects using upfiring drivers that bounce sound off your ceiling, which makes for an easier and more affordable alternative to installing height speakers in your ceiling.
Of course, the shape and height of your ceiling can alter the effectiveness of a soundbar’s upfiring drivers. If your ceiling is too high, too low, or vaulted, the signature height cues of Dolby Atmos soundtracks might be (depending on the situation) too diffuse, or too in-your-face.
The speakers are great, but don’t underestimate the sound bar
A sound bar requires, in most cases, a power cable and a pair of HDMI cables. Even if you have a subwoofer or rear speakers, they are usually connected to the main wireless device, and all they need is a nearby wall outlet. You can easily insert your sound bar into a small table like the one in the picture above, which tightens the space without additional gear. It’s harder with large receivers, two or three speakers on the front, and multiple speaker cables. (Possiblebut it’s hard, and the smaller the speakers, the more you’ll start to lose the sound quality advantage.)
