Microsoft launched DOS on 12 August 1981 – the day IBM debuted its Personal Computer. Known as PC DOS on that machine (and marketed as MS-DOS on compatibles), its series of commands and programs soon became the standard for PCs, paving the way for Windows in November 1985.
But that first version of Windows was appalling. How did Microsoft achieve operating system dominance and how did it see off rivals as strong as CP/M, which had been around since the mid-1970s? As always in such battles for supremacy there were key moments – and a lot of luck – that worked in favour of the winner.

There s been an interesting shift in digital transformation and how enterprises are developing strategies over the past year. Like all other areas of technology, COVID-19 and its impact over the past 12 months has profoundly changed the way enterprise leaders have approached it.
In the past, digital transformation was defined by the digital technology leaders were using to transform services or businesses by replacing non-digital or manual processes with digital processes, or replacing older digital technology with newer digital technology.
To a certain extent that is still true. Technology drives many of the practices that we expect to see in the digital workplace and the C Suite is still investing heavily in technologies to achieve business goals, especially with so many workers still working from home.

A native Tucsonian, Al attended the University of Arizona and was appointed to West Point by Arizona Congressman Richard Harless. He graduated from West Point in 1950. He then earned M.S. degrees in both electrical and industrial engineering at Stanford University. After a distinguished career in the Army, obtaining the rank of Major General at age 42, he and his high school sweetheart Bettie returned to Arizona and their home in Lakeside

This is a version of the X Window System xclock program, which has been enhanced with a cat mode . Originally an X10 program by Tony Della Fera (MIT-Athena, DEC), Dave Mankins (MIT-Athena, BBN) and Ed Moy (UC Berkeley), Deanna Hohn and I (at Digital Equipment Corporation) crafted this for our own entertainment in the late 1980 s. The graphics were inspired by the famous, indeed iconic, Kit-Cat (R) clock, one of which still hangs in my kitchen. I ve put this up on github in honor of this year being the 30th anniversary of the introduction of X10, and because it s a fun desktop toy.
