Wipro Metro Deal: Wipro signs deal to take over IT units of Metro AG, expects business of $1 billion

Wipro said it expects the deal to be worth $700 million in the first five years, and may likely extend by a further four years, taking the potential spend to $1 billion. Wipro would deliver a complete technology, engineering and solutions transformation programme for Metro as it positions itself as 360-degree wholesale provider in the hotel, restaurant and catering food industry, it said. Wipro’s transformation programme would encompass cloud, data centre services, workplace and network services, along with application development and operations to provide an integrated, flexible and robust digital infrastructure to help drive Metro’s transformation.

It could extend to an additional 4 years, with a potential spend of up to $1 Billion, making it the biggest deal win since Thierry Delaporte took charge as CEO a few months ago.  As a part of this, Wipro will take over the IT units of METRO AG METRO-NOM GMBH in Germany and METRO Systems Romania S.R.L. Through this partnership, more than 1,300 employees across Germany, Romania and India will transfer to Wipro.

IT and outsourcing major Wipro said it will take over the IT division of Germany-based wholesaler Metro AG in a deal that is expected to generate revenue of over Rs 1,000 cr per year for the Indian company. A total of more than 1,300 IT staff from Germany, Romania and India belonging to the wholesaler will join the Indian company as part of the takeover. Wipro said it will provide them with “new opportunities to advance their careers, access innovation, work with leading digital technologies and adopt new ways of working that enable agility, speed and scale in engineering”. The estimated deal value for the duration of the first 5 years is approximately $700 million.

South Warwickshire Trust launches Digital Innovation Hub

South Warwickshire NHS Foundation Trust (SWFT) has set up a Digital Innovation Hub for healthcare in a partnership with IT solutions firm SCC. It is intended to give clinicians a facility to carry out trials of new technologies alongside the existing care regime. A spokesperson for SWFT said it will be open to clinicians from the Foundation Group partnership it shares with George Eliot and Wye Valley NHS Foundation Trusts. “The idea is for our clinicians to work on digital solutions for common problems that could be shared far and wide,” she said, adding that it will not be confined to using SCC technology.
