After OTT player voiced concerns on the government’s new rules governing digital content services, Information & Broadcasting (I&B) on Friday Ministry sought to address their concerns.

Defending new guidelines issued for regulation of digital content, Union Minister Prakash Javadekar said the government announced the new rules to stop misuse of social media platforms. He also said that no law has been introduced for the new rules.

The government on Thursday announced regulations for social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter as well as OTT players such as Netflix, requiring them to remove any content flagged by the authorities within 36 hours and set up a complaint redressal mechanism with an officer based in the country.
