Housing affordability has been a major topic of concern for researchers and policymakers in recent years. Access to affordable, quality housing is associated with a variety of positive economic and social outcomes, which makes it an important tool to encourage families to thrive.
But historically, affordable housing has been out of reach for many. Low income populations and racial and ethnic minorities are often excluded from the wealth-building benefits of homeownership. People who rent are far more likely to be cost burdened by housing, according to Census Bureau data. And whenever income grows slowly as it has recently for certain groups housing affordability becomes even more of a challenge.

WEDNESDAY, April 21, 2021 (HealthDay News) More than 40% of Americans live with unhealthy air, according to the American Lung Association s annual State of the Air report.
Certain cities, and certain types of Americans, are far more prone to be affected.
Black Americans are 61% more likely to live in a county shrouded in unhealthy air than white people and three times more likely to live in a county with failing air-quality grades across the board, the ALA report found.
Moreover, the report says climate change continues to worsen air pollution in much of the country.

CHICAGO, April 21, 2021 /PRNewswire/ A new report from the American Lung Association finds more than 4 in 10 people (135 million) in the U.S. live with polluted air, placing their health and lives at risk. The 22
nd annual State of the Air report shows that people of color were 61% more likely to live in a county with unhealthy air than white people, and three times more likely to live in a county that failed all three air quality grades. While the report finds some improvements in the nation s air quality, it is clear that in many parts of the country climate change is making our air quality worse.
