Move over, Epcot Adventures by Disney is planning a luxury expedition cruise to Antarctica.
The 12-day, 11-night journey starts with a night at the Sofitel Buenos Aires and a flight to Ushuaia, the world s southernmost city and gateway to Patagonia.
The itinerary includes time to explore Tierra del Fuego National Park, a stop at the End of the World Post Office, and a catamaran ride through the Beagle Channel named after the boat Charles Darwin used to explore the area in 1833.
Disney is partnering with Ponant a French cruise line known for its luxury vessels and adventurous itineraries on the journey. Passengers will have the chance to cross the Drake Passage (one of the most challenging crossings a ship can make), kayak at the edge of the earth, and frolic with penguins and whales in a place few get to experience.
It was an offer I couldn’t refuse. What could go wrong?

It was an offer I couldn’t refuse, even though it meant spending Christmas 1981 away from home. Could I lead a small group of Americans to Argentina and the Falkland Islands? The tour operator knew that my husband George and I had spent a few months in both places in 1974, but this time it would be in comfort, with a week in the Falklands, mostly on New Island, part-owned by the naturalist-artist Ian Strange, and a week in Argentina ending up with Christmas in Ushuaia.
