Simar Jact Singh
Simar Jact Singh faces two felony charges: causing a fire and possessing a zip gun, Nevada County Jail records state.
Officers arrested Singh early Wednesday after Truckee police responded to a call about an ongoing bonfire near Prosser Dam Road, Public Information Officer Deverie Acuff said.
Laura Brown, public information officer for the Truckee Fire Protection District, said firefighters quickly extinguished two small “warming fires” a few feet apart, spanning 4 feet by 4 feet, upon arrival.
“It wasn’t like the fire broke out,” Brown said.
Brown said a fire started anywhere besides private property is considered arson.

A measure that would tax property owners within the Truckee Fire Protection District $179 per parcel, per year, to reduce the risk of wildfires is headed to the ballot for voter approval.
At its board meeting last week, the Truckee Fire Protection District approved of language for the measure, which will now appear on the Aug. 31 special election ballot.
If approved by voters, the measure would provide an estimated $3.7 million for the district, which would be used for the removal of dry brush, dead trees, and fire hazards; improving emergency evacuation routes and procedures; adding firebreaks where needed to help prevent or slow the spread of wildfire; reducing roadside vegetation key evacuation routes; improving early fire detection and emergency warning systems; and providing homeowners with easy and inexpensive disposal options for trimmings and green waste.

The 2018 Camp Fire that devastated Paradise marked the deadliest and most destructive wildfire in the state’s history.
Since that time, fire officials have drawn comparisons between Paradise and the scenic forests that surround the Truckee area.
In order to prevent and mitigate a catastrophic wildfire, the Truckee Fire Protection District is advocating for a measure that would cost property owners $179 per year, per parcel, for work that would include: Removing dry brush, dead trees, and fire hazards; improving emergency evacuation routes and procedures; adding firebreaks where needed to help prevent or slow the spread of wildfire; reducing roadside vegetation key evacuation routes; improving early fire detection and emergency warning systems; and providing homeowners with easy and inexpensive disposal options for trimmings and green waste.

According to Truckee Police Sgt. Danny Renfrow, the police and Truckee Fire Protection District responded around 7 p.m. Tuesday to multiple reports of a vegetation fire along Legacy Trail near the Highway 267 overpass.
Renfrow said the responding officers were flagged down by a few witnesses who had noticed a camp nearby the fire. Witnesses noticed a man affiliated with the camp running from the source of the fire carrying his tent and guitar case.
