Courtesy photo President Biden’s proposed $6 trillion federal budget could drive creation of two “rapid” bus routes in Austin featuring a total of 30 electric buses. On May 28, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced the two projects, which would receive $36.1 million in federal funding if Congress approves Biden’s budget plan for fiscal 2022. The two Austin projects are: A 14-mile, 19-station bus route along Pleasant Valley Road between Northeast Austin and Southeast Austin. Places along the route include Dell Children’s Medical Center, Austin Community College Eastview, and Mendez Middle School.
