Steeves & Rozema long-term care community resident Valerie Verberg was the first recipient of the Moderna vaccine in Lambton County on Jan. 26.
The 88-year-old was first in line for the vaccine as Lambton Public Health officially began its COVID-19 immunization program at Trillium Villa Nursing Home in Sarnia.

âI feel great,â Verberg said. âI canât believe I was the first one.â Lambton Public Health said it chose Trillium Villa to begin its immunization program due to the level of risk there, due to its size and older design. Immunizations were scheduled to continue throughout the week until the agency administers all of the available doses of Moderna vaccine in its possession.
LONDON, ONT. A Sarnia long-term-care home resident is the first recipient of a COVID-19 vaccine in Lambton County. Lambton Public Health announced Tuesday that Valerie Verberg, 88, was the first person to get the shot as part of its immunization program at Trillium Villa Nursing Home. “I feel great,” she said. “I can’t believe I was the first one!” Verberg said. Immunizations will continue this week using the Moderna vaccine. Another small shipment of the vaccine is expected to arrive in the first week of February. “Today is a great day,” says Trillium Villa administrator Kim Van Dam in a news release.

Three new COVID-19 workplace outbreaks, an outbreak at a Sarnia high school and another at a Sarnia long-term care home have been declared, local health officials say.
Four of the outbreaks, all declared Saturday by public health, involved 11 total confirmed cases – one workplace with five, two with two each and two at Great Lakes secondary.
