ELLSWORTH Hancock County Sheriff’s deputies took a Bangor man into custody Jan. 21 after he reportedly refused to stop his vehicle, which was operating erratically on Route 3 in Trenton.
“The vehicle refused to stop, traveling into Ellsworth and driving head-on into traffic in a one-way section of High Street before accelerating north of 75 miles per hour further down High Street,” Deputy Marcus Downes reported.
The pursuit continued down High Street as the vehicle, a white Toyota Tacoma, passed through multiple red lights, Downes said.
Finally, the truck stopped at the intersection of Oak Street and Church Street because an Ellsworth Police cruiser blocked the road.
ELLSWORTH A complaint about someone allegedly checking mailboxes in Lamoine Jan. 12 turned out to be a boy “performing nice gestures by placing treats in the mailboxes of locals in the area,” said Hancock County Sheriff’s Deputy Marcus Downes.
Sexual assault investigation
Hancock County Sheriff’s Detective Stephen McFarland is investigating a teenage girl’s report of a sexual assault that occurred two years ago.
Impaired operation
Deputy Zach Allen arrested a Tremont man after he was allegedly found passed out behind the wheel of his vehicle on Tremont Road near Clydesdale Way Jan. 12.
Keith Wedge, 35, was arrested on a charge of operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of an intoxicant.
Putnam Common Pleas
Dylan Palmer, 19, Continental, pleaded guilty to failure to provide notice of change of address, a third-degree felony. He was given a 24-month prison term with credit for 63 days served in jail while his case was pending. Palmer was convicted of failing to notify authorities of his change of address as a requirement of his sexual offender status.
Peter Lotzer II, 35, Lima, appeared for sentencing on a charge of having weapons under disability, a fourth-degree felony. He was given a 12-month prison term to run consecutive to a 36-month sentence imposed in Allen County Common Pleas Court on charge of aggravated possession of drugs, a third-degree felony. He was given credit for 190 days served in jail while his case was pending. The Putnam County charge was amended from a third-degree felony while charges of tampering with evidence, a third-degree felony; and unlawful possession of dangerous ordnance, a fifth-degree felony, were dismissed.
Henry Common Pleas
Nicole Cooper, 39, Napoleon, appeared for sentencing on to counts of theft, each a fifth-degree felony. She was placed on community control two years with conditions, including that she serve 90 days in the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio and make restitution of $1,094.18 to Shell and $165 to Circle K.
Dylan Hall, 24, Wauseon, pleaded guilty to aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony. He was placed on community control for three years with conditions, including that he complete the SEARCH program and comply with treatment recommendations. Charges of complicity to aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, a first-degree felony; aggravated trafficking in methamphetamine, a fourth-degree felony; and aggravated possession of drugs, a fifth-degree felony, were dismissed.
ELLSWORTH The Hancock County Sheriff’s Office checked on children for a school and for Maine Child Protective Services this past week.
On Dec. 16, Deputy Luke Gross checked on the well-being of siblings who have not had contact with the school.
“The kids were found home safe and a parent was advised of the truancy laws,” Gross said. “No further action was taken.”
On Dec. 17, Deputy Jeff McFarland tried to check on the well-being of a Tremont boy, 16, at the request of the Maine Department of Health and Human Services. McFarland said no one was found at the boy’s residence.
