Letters: New Orleans would mistreat Italian Americans by denying Tivoli Circle

The city of New Orleans should retain Tivoli Circle as the name of the land 400 feet north of The National WWII Museum. Renaming Tivoli Circle is not authorized by City Council motion M20-170 and reinforces the seventh “Whereas” clause which states: “New Orleans troubling history of mistreatment and violence toward immigrant groups.” Taking away the Italian name “Tivoli” is additional mistreatment by New Orleans government to the Italian immigrant community. Tivoli Circle first appeared in New Orleans in 1807, when city engineer Barthélémy Lafon drew subdivision plans for the property above Canal Street in the Faubourgs Ste. Mary and Annunciation.

Tivoli Theatre Foundation Has Holiday Pop-Up Shop, Toy And Food Drive Monday Wednesday, December 16, 2020 The Tivoli Theatre Foundation is hosting a Holiday Pop-Up Shop and Drive-By Toy & Food Drive on Monday from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. outside the venue under the Tivoli Marquee. Those interested in helping others may contribute an unwrapped toy or non-perishable food item benefiting the Forgotten Child Fund and the Chattanooga Area Food Bank. With the charitable donation, participants will receive 10 percent off a Tivoli Theatre Ornament or Limited Edition Poster, both benefiting the Tivoli Theatre Foundation Recovery Fund. There will be holiday music, door prizes, and raffles for gift cards good for future show tickets and gift shop purchases.
