The Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) isn’t complete without Spider-Man, which is why Sony and Disney have been fighting over the franchise like it’s a child of divorce.
Now, the two big companies have signed a licensing deal that makes Spider-Man films as well as Sony’s other Marvel properties available for streaming on Disney+.
This agreement comes on the heels of a “pay 1 window” deal between Sony and Netflix that lets Netflix stream Sony’s new movies approximately nine months after its theatrical debut.
This makes Sony’s agreement with The House of Mouse a “post-pay 1 window”, meaning that Disney will only be able to stream the movies once they leave Netflix – which we all know, may take a while.

Disney and Sony Pictures have announced a deal that will see movies released by the latter studio between 2022 - 2026 hit Disney+ following their runs on Netflix. The Walt Disney Company and Sony Pictures Entertainment today announced a multi-year content licensing agreement for U.S. streaming and TV rights to Sony Pictures’ new theatrical releases across Disney Media & Entertainment Distribution’s vast portfolio of platforms including its streaming services Disney+ and Hulu, as well as linear entertainment networks including ABC, Disney Channels, Freeform, FX and National Geographic. The deal covers theatrical releases from 2022-2026 and begins for each film following its Pay 1 TV window. The agreement builds upon the companies’ prior arrangement which saw SPE movies licensed to FX in the post-Pay 1 TV window.

Spider-Man is finally joining the rest of the Marvel Cinematic Universe on Disney+! On Wednesday, it was announced that the Walt Disney Company and Sony Pictures Entertainment have set a huge movie licensing agreement. The deal will bring Sony Pictures theatrical releases from 2022-2026 and much of its existing library including Sony Pictures Universe of Marvel Characters films like Spider-Man to Disney-owned streaming services such as Disney+ and Hulu, as well as to Disney s TV networks like ABC, Disney Channels, Freeform, FX and National Geographic. Let me just say, as someone who recently did a Marvel binge on Disney+ and had to rent Tom Holland and Zendaya s Spider-Man films, this is a huge win.
