The Domestic Homicide Review makes a number of key recommendations around the support available to those suffering domestic abuse. The Review was commissioned by the Middlesbrough Domestic Abuse Strategic Partnership following the death of the 33-year-old mother-of-five Natalie Saunders at her home in 2018. Natalie Saunders Stephen Charlton had only been in a relationship with the victim for a matter of days before his history of domestic abuse became apparent to Ms Saunders.

Police and Crime Commissioner to end funding for heroin addiction treatment scheme

CLEVELAND S new Police and Crime Commissioner Steve Turner has been told he is “making a mistake” by ending funding from his office for a trailblazing heroin addiction treatment (HAT) scheme. Conservative Mr Turner says he will not fund the Middlesbrough-based project when funding from the PCC runs out in September and said he had seen no actual evidence, beyond anecdotal accounts, that it had reduced crime in the town. But Councillor Chris Jones, a Liberal Democrat who stood against Mr Turner in last week’s PCC election and is also a member of Cleveland’s Police and Crime Panel, said: “I think he is making a mistake to remove the funding.”

Ex-trustee of North Yorkshire charity appears in court charged with fraud

Ex-trustee of N Yorks charity charged with fraud

York Magistrates Court THE FORMER trustee of a North Yorkshire charity and chairman of a privatised probation organisation has appeared in the dock at York Magistrates Court. Hugh Richard Vaughan Morgan Williams, 68, is alleged to have abused both positions to commit fraud. He also faces three charges of converting assets obtained through criminal means and two of false accounting. He did not indicate a plea to any of the charges. His case was sent to Teesside Crown Court where he will appear for a plea and trial preparation hearing on June 8. He was released on unconditional bail at the end of the brief hearing.
