Police use of force bills making their way through the Texas Legislature Christian Flores UP NEXT On Wednesday, state lawmakers discussed bills on use of force by police officers just one day after a jury found ex-Minneapolis Police Officer Derek Chauvin guilty of the murder of George Floyd while in his custody. The Texas House Committee on Homeland Security and Public Safety will discuss HB 3654, known as the Mike Ramos Act. If passed, this bill would require all law enforcement agencies to create a model policy on use of force, which would focus on minimizing the number and severity of use of force incidents, with an emphasis on de-escalation. This would also require the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement - or TCOLE - to establish guidelines for suspending or revoking the license of an officer.
