Yet another state of disaster has been declared for Bastrop County, this time after several inches of snow and several days of continuous below-freezing temperatures crippled Texas’ electric grid and water systems last week.
On Monday afternoon, February 15, County Judge Paul Pape signed an emergency declaration of disaster due to severe winter weather. Under state law, such a disaster declaration must be ratified by the commissioners’ court within seven days or be discontinued. The item was on the agenda for Monday’s regular meeting of the Bastrop County Commissioners Court.
“Little did we know at the time that it would not get better,” Pape said at this Monday’s meeting. “it would get worse before it got better, and pretty much shut the entire county down.”
