Greg Abbott ordered state troopers on Wednesday to begin pulling over vehicles whose drivers are transporting migrants who pose a risk of carrying COVID-19, escalating his hardline approach on immigrants and eliciting outrage from advocates calling the order a ticket to racial profiling. The executive order allows Texas Department of Public Safety troopers to reroute those vehicles back to their origin point or a port of entry, or seize the vehicles if the driver does not comply.

Greg Abbott on Wednesday issued an executive order restricting ground transportation of migrants who pose a risk of carrying COVID-19 into Texas communities. The executive order also directed the Texas Department of Public Safety to stop any vehicle upon reasonable suspicion of such violation and reroute such vehicles back to its point of origin or a port of entry. DPS also has the authority to impound a vehicle that violates the executive order.

SPM NEWS 7.28.21 The National Weather Service issued a heat advisory today for the entire state of Iowa, most of South Dakota and a large portion of Nebraska. The heat advisory is in effect until 9 p.m. for Siouxland with a heat index near 110. Governors from all three Siouxland States slam the CDC’s announcement on Tuesday urging both vaccinated and nonvaccinated people to wear masks due to a surge of cases of COVID-19. The CDC also advises children in schools wear masks this fall. South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem tweeted “If you are worried about the virus, you’re free to get vaccinated, wear a mask, or stay home. However, we won’t be mandating anything. And the CDC’s inconsistency doesn’t help the American People.”
