El Paso s Toll Road Will Remain Free A While Longer

The new westside toll road is still free to use and it looks as though it will stay that way into the new year. The Border West Expressway was going to be free for all to use for a brief introductory period and it now appears that it will remain that way into 2021. The tollway was created by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and the Camino Real Regional Mobility Authority (CRRMA) and officially opened in October of 2019. Over a year later, there is still no charge to use the roadway . which is fine with me! As for when they will eventually begin charging the tolls, all I found on the CRRMA website was this:

The department, in partnership with grants provided by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) and no-refusal funding through the City of Austin Transportation Department, is continuing to work to address safety on our roadways and waterways to keep that number from climbing even higher before we reach 2021. Starting this evening, APD will conduct a no-refusal DWI initiative that will run nightly from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. until January 3, 2021. The focus of this initiative is to proactively encourage drivers to make responsible decisions, enforce DWI laws and to apply for blood search warrants for suspects who refuse to provide breath or blood specimen as required by law.

Texas DPS to Step Up Enforcement During Christmas and New Year s

The Texas Department of Public Safety is set to kick off its annual Christmas and New Year’s holiday traffic enforcement campaign on December 23. During the campaign, DPS officers will increase traffic enforcement from Wednesday, December 23 through Saturday, December 26 for the Christmas holiday. For the New Year’s holiday, DPS will conduct increased enforcement from Thursday, December 31 through Friday, January 1, according to CBS DFW.
