Peak Wind Gusts Recorded Overnight
El Paso, Texas- After gusty winds overnight, we ll see the winds begin to decrease in speed as we head into this afternoon.
Some of the strongest wind gusts recorded on our Weathernet sites were on the east side of town. Powell Elementary School coming in at 56 MPH, Texas Tech Health Sciences Center recording gusts around 44 MPH.
Sustained wind speeds will decrease to around 10-15 MPH by noon with gusts around 20-25 MPH. The direction of winds will be from the west, so plan on breezy conditions for eastern facing slopes of our area mountains.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - With vaccines being slowly distributed in the state and nationally, health experts still encourage social and physical distancing measures.
The key to moving away from the measures is what doctors call herd immunity.
Dr. Victor Test is the chief of pulmonology medicine and critical care at the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center and director of Medical Intensive Care Unit at University Medical Center. He said there may be a need to re-think the term.

LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Tuesdayâs virtual work session with councilmembers highlighted a busy year for the Lubbock Police Department with a 105 percent increase in homicides from the year prior and councilmembers discussed the future of the vaccine in Lubbock, saying a growing and steady number of vaccines will make their way to the Hub City.
Lubbock Police Chief Floyd Mitchell and other leaders spoke on violent crimes against persons such as rape, robbery and aggrivated assault, saying the numbers went down and so did property crimes. Property crimes decreased by 11 percent with more than 11 thousand calls responded to. Lubbock Police leaders attributed this to more people at home during the pandemic.
Earlier today, the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services announced a new Rural Telehealth Initiativeâs Telehealth Broadband Pilot Program with the Texas Tech Health Sciences Center serving as the lead organization in Texas for the program, according to a news release made by the Tech HSC.
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has invested $8 million to launch the program, according to the release.
The pilot program is part of the Rural Action Plan that the U.S. Department of Health and Human Sciences that launched this past year, according to the release. The Rural Action Plan provides a path to coordinate agency efforts to transform and improve rural health care.
