Breastfeeding affects weight gain, and so women who breastfeed will not gain more weight, which will also influences less fat buildup in the abdomen or around their heart. As demonstrated by multiple studies over the years, women who breastfeed have a lower risk for developing cardiovascular disease and diabetes when compared to those who don t or can t. However, the mechanisms by which these risks are reduced for lactating women are still not fully understood.

City officials confirm presence of COVID-19 variants in Amarillo community During Wednesday’s COVID-19 news conference, medical professionals said they are encouraged by the recent COVID-19 trends in the community related to the number of active cases and hospitalizations.  “When we look at these numbers, we can see that our new cases remain low, our active cases remain low, our hospitalizations are clearly low (and) there’s plenty of vaccine available,” said Scott Milton, the city’s public health authority and an associate professor at the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Amarillo.  However, even with the lower case numbers and hospitalizations, the presence of COVID-19 variants in the Texas Panhandle were confirmed during the conference.
