Texas DPS launches Click it or Ticket effort ahead of Memorial Day weekend

The Texas Department of Public Safety in Lubbock and around the state is urging drivers to travel safely as they close out May and head into the Memorial Day holiday.
Starting Monday, and continuing through Monday, May 31, Texas Highway Patrol Troopers will participate in Click It or Ticket, an enforcement campaign to encourage people to wear their seatbelt, as well as Operation CARE (Crash Awareness Reduction Effort), looking for drivers who are intoxicated, speeding or breaking other traffic laws, according to a DPS news release.
Texas DPS Honors Fallen Officers at Memorial Service
AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) remembered and paid tribute to Texas Highway Patrol Troopers, Texas Rangers and Special Agents who lost their lives in the line of duty at today’s 2021 Peace Officers Memorial Service.
Those honored included Trooper Moises Sanchez, who died in August 2019, and Trooper Chad Walker, who was killed in March 2021. The service was held at DPS Headquarters in Austin, with Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick as the guest speaker.
“Today, I am deeply humbled to speak at the 2021 Peace Officers Memorial Service,” said Texas Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick. “Since I have been Lt. Governor, I have attended far too many funerals for our fallen officers. I stand with Texas DPS and our brave peace officers, and will continue to work diligently to better protect our Troopers as they put their lives on the line, every single day, for Texas communities.”
Two of Texas Top Ten Most Wanted Fugitives Arrested
AUSTIN, TX The Department of Public Safety has confirmed two fugitives on the Texas Top 10 Most Wanted List have been captured.
According to DPS, the two men were arrested during the first week of May.
The first suspect, identified as 33-year-old Eric Munoz was arrested in Donna, TX during Operation Lone Star.
Munoz is connected to the Tango Blast Valluco gang was part of the Texas 10 Most Wanted Fugitive list. According to law enforcement, Munoz was in prison back in 2017.
He was placed on parole and had been wanted since October of 2020 for a violation. He had been previously convicted of multiple criminal offenses, including unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.
