The vehicle part, which is behind the exhaust pipe, is designed to clean harmful fumes that come out of gas-powered engines. Because of the resale value of the metals inside catalytic converters, police say they have become a popular target for thieves.  Although authorities are aware of the trend, they say putting a stop to the crimes is difficult because the parts are easy to remove and people who resell them face few questions. What s more, traders who specialize in buying and selling the coveted metals found inside the converters   palladium and rhodium  say they don t see the prices of the materials dropping anytime soon.
