The Texas Supreme Court, in a 35th emergency pandemic order issued February 11, extended until May 12 the force of pleading requirements to forestall evictions for certain tenants behind on rent.
The Lubbock City Council voted on a resolution to receive the money from the state on Tuesday. If approved by Community Development, the Texas Rent Assistance Grant can provide funding for up to six months including five months unpaid rent and at least one month currently due.
At a brief 17-minute meeting Tuesday, the Killeen City Council voted, among other items, to approve the city receiving grant funds for COVID-19 relief.
Additional relief for landlords and tenants in the throes of the eviction process may be on the horizon, if a new grant award is approved by the Killeen City Council on Tuesday.
The city of Killeen was awarded $239,332.33 by the Texas Department of Housing and Community Affairs (TDHCA), grant funding which must first be approved by the city council before it can be used.
The Texas Eviction Diversion Program (TEDP) funds are part of an expanded pilot program called the Texas Emergency Rental Assistance Program created through the TDHCA and funded by the federal Community Services Block Grant CARES program.
