Leaders of town, county, state and federal law enforcement are meeting this week to prepare for an increase in police presence at government buildings ahead of Inauguration Day.
Six people were criminally trespassed from Astoria Hot Springs after a manager saw hot pool poachers on a surveillance camera. The Teton County Sheriffâs Office responded just after 9 p.m. Thursday and found two men and four women soaking in a pool. âThey admitted to climbing over the fence,â Teton County sheriffâs Sgt. Clay Platt said. Most of the people were local, but a few were from Utah, Platt said. Their ages ranged from 18 to 24, and they were all given citations for criminal trespass.
A teenager called police because he said his Trump flag was stolen out of his truck while it was parked at Smithâs Food and Drug. Itâs the same teen who called police in November to say his Trump flag had been vandalized, police said.
The Teton County, Idaho, coronerâs office ruled her death a suicide.
Matkins, 42, was an East Idaho native who left a lasting impact on conservation in the region, first leading the Sagebrush Steppe Land Trust in Pocatello, then moving to Teton Valley in 2013 to work for and then direct the Teton Regional Land Trust.
She served on several nonprofit boards, including Teton County Idaho Search and Rescue, for which she also volunteered. In 2020, she received the Dawn Banks Nonprofit Leadership Award for her collaboration with other organizations on conservation projects.
When she wasnât watching sandhill cranes or inventorying land for conservation easements, she enjoyed mountain biking, boating and skiing.

At 11:20 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 8th, the Teton County Sheriff’s Office received a call requesting assistance in locating a 42-year-old female Tetonia resident. The reporting party advised that the missing female had left her residence to go for a walk and had not returned. The reporting party was concerned for her safety.
Search efforts began in the area where the missing person was last seen. The Teton County Idaho Search and Rescue team was called out to assist in the search. An Air Idaho Rescue helicopter flight team also assisted in the search.
