Companies are finding it helpful to use SASB and GRI standards together for their sustainability reporting, according to a research report released Thursday.
The Sustainability Accounting Standards Board and Global Reporting Initiative interviewed four global companies: Diageo in the U.K., City Developments Ltd., Singapore, Detroit-based General Motors and Suncor Energy in Canada. The results are in the research report, A Practical Guide to Sustainability Reporting Using GRI and SASB Standards, that includes surveys with 132 business representatives from around the world.

Electric vehicle maker Tesla delivered 184,800 cars in the first quarter of this year, beating analysts’ estimates despite a shortage of chips that has hit the automotive industry worldwide.
Analysts were expecting the company to deliver nearly 168,000 vehicles in the three months to March 31, according to estimates compiled by FactSet. The world s biggest electric vehicle company also beat its previous record of 180,570 deliveries in the fourth quarter of last year.
“We are encouraged by the strong reception of the Model Y in China and are quickly progressing to full production capacity,” Tesla said in a statement to the US Securities and Exchange Commission.

Whether through mandates or merely goals, efforts to boost the use of electric vehicles in Washington are wise. The state, with an eco-conscious ethos, should be a leader in the global movement away from gas- and diesel-powered vehicles.
In the Legislature, House Bill 1204 reflects the thin edge between mandates and goals. The bill originally would have required that starting with the 2030 model year, vehicles must be electric in order to be registered and licensed in the state.
According to The Seattle Times, advice from the state attorney general’s office suggested that such a mandate would face legal challenges claiming it overstepped the state’s authority under the federal Clean Air Act and those challenges would delay implementation.
