Michigan Opera Theatre moves outdoor 2021-22 season bow to June

Michigan Opera Theatre leadership has postponed its outdoor debut performance of the 2021-22 season in light of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and a chillier-than-usual weather forecast for mid-May.  Cavalleria rusticana,  Pietro Mascagni s one-act tale of lust, betrayal and murder in rural Sicily, was to be performed as a concert piece at Meadow Brook Amphitheatre on May 15, but will now be staged at 7 p.m. June 12 to take advantage of more favorable weather conditions and allow patrons more time to benefit from vaccine options, according to a news release. While COVID safety measures have already been planned by MOT and the 313 Presents staff for the performance, both companies continue to operate with audience safety and comfort as their top priority, the statement said.
