DETROIT (WXYZ) â The Detroit Jazz Festival will livestream a preview event on Wednesday to announce its 2021 festival lineup. The 3-hour event will stream live starting at 6:30 p.m.
It will not only include the lineup for the Labor Day weekend event but will also feature live performances by Dee Dee Bridgewater and Cuban pianist Omar Sosa.
The preview event will be held without an audience to abide by safety regulations for public gatherings during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Typically at this time of year, WEMU presents its annual State of the Station message at a special breakfast for key stakeholders, elected officials, and major donors. Since we re unable to do that in person this year, we ve shared it here.

Grammy and Tony-Award winning jazz vocalist Dee Dee Bridgewater will lead a live virtual chat Tuesday, Dec. 29th from 7:00 -8:00 p.m. Eastern with noted women leaders in jazz including Detroit-based musicians Marion Hayden and Gayelynn McKinney and up-and-coming jazz sensation Hannah Marks. Bridgewater is also the 2021 Detroit Jazz Festival Artist-in-Residence.

The Detroit Jazz Festival 2021 artist-in-residence Dee Dee Bridgewater is leading the live discussion that includes three generations of noted women leaders in jazz.
The live discussion will be held via Zoom on Tuesday from 7 p.m. until 8 p.m.

The live discussion will look back at the year in jazz, including the 2020 Detroit Jazz Festival. They will discuss challenges and successes for women in Jazz and look forward to jazz in 2021.
