Detroit restaurant owner upset over lack of police response to emergency call
DETROIT – The owner of a Detroit restaurant is upset over the lack of police response to an emergency call.
“When we call 911 we know they are busy, but we expect them to send a car, especially when we call saying they are trying to get in our building,” said the owner of Telway Hamburgers who is not being identified.
The owner of Telway Hamburgers is terrified. She is afraid the six people who showed up to the restaurant at 5 a.m. on Sunday will come back.
Detroit schools begin resuming in-person learning on Monday
Beginning Monday, Detroit Public Schools Community District is welcoming students back to the classroom after two months of remote learning.

Beginning Monday, Detroit Public Schools Community District is welcoming students back to the classroom after two months of remote learning.
The school board voted unanimously last week to allow schools to resume face-to-face instruction, however, due to an agreement with the teacher s union, teachers still have the option to teach remotely until the end of June.
For those opting to head back to the classroom, it s been months since they ve been back â before spring break. In a statement last week, Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti noted that nearly 20,000 families pushed for a face-to-face option during the latest district-wide survey.

DETROIT – The Detroit Public Schools Community District will return to face-to-face education Monday.

Students have been learning remotely since March 26.
The district said it is now using new criteria including vaccination rates to determine whether it will close schools again.
The district is planning on offering a full schedule of in-person education in the fall for the 2021-22 school year alongside an option of fully remote if families want it.

Detroit public schools offering $15K pay incentive for Exceptional Student Education teachers

DETROIT (WXYZ) â The Detroit Public Schools Community District is offering a reoccurring pay incentive of $15,000 for select Exceptional Student Education teachers, beginning in the 2021-2022 school year.
The district said the bonus aims to fill the remaining teacher vacancies in DPSCD, which have steadily declined from nearly 300 in fall 2017 to 38 this spring.
Of the vacancies in the district, 80% are in ESE positions.
The following current district employed teachers and those who would be newly recruited and hold active endorsement will be eligible:
