Detroit Police to remember fallen officers with Memorial Walk
Correction: Sgt. Rasheen McClain was killed in November 2019.
Detroit Three fallen officers will be honored Saturday as the Detroit Police Department alters an annual tradition to remember members of the department who died.
A memorial walk is planned at 9 a.m. Saturday to honor Capt. Johnathan Parnell, Sgt. Rasheen McClain, and Officer Waldis Johnson.
For two decades before the COVID-19 pandemic, the police department had an annual police week during the week of Mother s Day dedicated to fallen officers.
The week consisted of a local memorial and plaque dedicated at Detroit Public Safety Headquarters followed by a trip to Washington, D.C., for police weekend where a candlelight vigil would be held and the officers names added to the memorial wall.

The incident on the city s west side marked at least the fifth since March in which Detroit officers fired at citizens after they reportedly shot at or pointed guns at them and it occurred as detectives were investigating at least the ninth mass shooting in Detroit in less than a month.
Detroit Friends, relatives and former co-workers of slain Detroit Police Sgt. Elaine Williams minced no words Friday in castigating the judge who granted bond to her alleged killer. There s one word for people who hide. It s called cowardly, Detroit police chief James Craig said during a vigil for Williams, a mother of two and a 14-year Detroit police veteran who was killed June 2, 2019, in the Garden City home she shared with her domestic partner, Eddie Ray-Jr. Johnson.
Johnson was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. Wayne County Circuit Judge Lawrence Talon on April 1 ordered the defendant released on a tether because of an undisclosed medical condition, reducing the defendant’s bond from remand status to a $100,000/10% bond.
