27-year-old dead after ‘unprovoked’ shooting attack on police officers
Updated 12:50 PM;
DETROIT – A 27-year-old man is dead after he allegedly attacked police officers who were investigating an unrelated shooting scene in Detroit early Monday morning, police said.
After a high-speed chase, the suspect allegedly fired shots at officers again, fled on foot and then was shot when he pointed a .40-caliber Smith and Wesson at officers again, authorities said. He later succumbed to his injuries at a local hospital.
“Clearly, this was a suspect that we had to apprehend,” said Detroit Police Chief James Craig during a news conference on the officer-involved shooting “Clearly, he was focused on one thing and one thing only: To kill a police officer . We’re trying to figure out what would be the motive for this unprovoked way to attack police officers.”

(WXYZ) â Your car could be easily stolen if you use a key fob.
Both consumers and officials are calling on the Big 3 to do something about the problem.
7 Action News first reported on an epidemic of stolen high-performance vehicles this year after an internal Michigan State Police bulletin that spelled out how easy it is for the vehicles to be stolen by making a new key fob and driving off within seconds.
In response, Detroit Police Chief James Craig contacted Dodge to fix the security gap.
James Craig took aim at his city’s representative in Congress, Rep.
Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), for what he called her “disgusting” comment that policing was “inherently and intentionally racist.”
Calling her remarks “reckless and disgusting,” Craig said in a Monday morning CNN interview, “The anti-police rhetoric is just too much.”
“This is about her putting attention to herself,” Craig said. “That’s exactly what it’s designed to do. It’s not productive. She doesn’t speak for the majority of Detroiters. The majority of Detroiters support this police department. They want effective and constitutional policing, and to make statements like ‘Abolish policing,’ ‘Abolish incarceration,’ certainly is counterproductive.”

Detroit Police Chief James Craig went after Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., after her latest call for no more policing in the wake of 20-year-old Daunte Wright s death after a police traffic stop in Minnesota
Tlaib has faced a mounting backlash after calling for an end to policing, incarceration, and militarization – the latest in a long string of controversial comments from the sophomore congresswoman. She s reckless, Craig told Fox 2 Detroit on Sunday. I d love to see her resign. I d throw her a goodbye party. Who is she speaking for? he continued. When you talk about abolishing police, incarceration, when you talk about safe cities – what do you think the residents in Detroit want? I know. I speak with them.
