Detroit Protest Demands: Stop Anti-Asian Hate and Violence! | Wisconsin Bail Out the People Movement

By Fighting Words Detroit Staff There was another rally and march in downtown Detroit on Sat. March 27, 2021. The event was in response to the escalation of racist violence directed towards Asian people inside the United States and abroad. For the second weekend consecutively, thousands have taken to the streets across the United States demanding an end to the violent racist attacks against Asian people. Hate crimes directed towards Asians have increased by 150% over the last year. The Detroit event was organized by the Asian American community themselves and in their own names. Several community leaders and political officials spoke at the rally noting the contemporary and historical repression and exploitation endured by Asian people dating back more than a century in the U.S. The gathering began at 3:00pm outside the City-County Bldg.

Judge tosses City of Detroit s countersuit against protesters

A federal judge on Wednesday tossed out the city of Detroit s legal claims against Detroit Will Breathe protesters, concluding it failed to prove that demonstrators conspired with one another to cause civil unrest and harm police officers over the summer. That s what the city argued after getting hit with a lawsuit last fall that sought to ban Detroit police from using batons, riot gear, tear gas and rubber bullets against protesters marching against police brutality. Detroit Will Breathe filed the lawsuit and secured a temporary restraining order against the use of those tactics. But then  the group got hit with a counterclaim by the city, alleging that protesters were part of a civil conspiracy to destroy property, hurt police officers and incite rioting.
