New case counts have been in the triple digits for more than a week. The active case count, or how many people are currently infected with the virus, has been trending upward.  The introduction of COVID-19 variants in the community has been threatening to reverse the gains made in blunting the curve of the pandemic, and health officials have warned of the UK variant s imminent path to becoming the most dominant strain of COVID-19 in Shelby County.
