Colonel Steven Turner, an Oak Ridge resident, became the 15th commander of the 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Tennessee on Sunday.
The 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment (ACR) is one of two “heavy” ACRs. It is also known as the “Tennessee Cavalry,” and it is the only ACR in the Army National Guard. It is one of five armored brigade combat teams, and it has more than 4,000 soldiers. Subordinate units are located in three different states and throughout Tennessee. It has headquarters in Knoxville.
A change of command ceremony was held at West High School in Knoxville on Sunday.

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – After nearly 37 years of service, Brig. Gen. (Tenn.) Lyndon Craig Johnson, a Manchester resident, is retiring from the Tennessee Military Department on Feb. 6. Johnson, the current commander of the Tennessee State Guard, will relinquish command of the State Guard to Brig. Gen. (Tenn.) Juan R. Santiago from Memphis, during a ceremony held at the Tennessee National Guard’s Joint Force Headquarters in Nashville. “Johnson has done a fantastic job for more than four-and-a-half years,” said Maj. Gen. Holmes, Tennessee’s Adjutant General. “It is a great loss to our State but his retirement is well deserved after spending more than 36 years in uniform.”
JOHNSON CITY - William Bolton âBoâ Miller, Johnson City, died Wednesday, December 30, 2020, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital, following a brief illness.
Bo was a native and resident of Johnson City. He was the son of the late William John Miller and Edith Jean McCormick Miller.
Bo was a 1965 graduate of Science Hill High School and attended E.T.S.U. where he earned a B.S. Degree and a Masterâs Degree. He formerly served in the Tennessee Army National Guard where he achieved Authorized Sharpshooter status. Bo attended Grace Fellowship Church. He previously was active with Young Life and Johnson City Swim Association. Bo loved going to UT football games; loved playing golf; and loved the beach.
Volunteers loaded Empty Pantry Fund food baskets and toys from Junior Service League of Maryvilleâs Toys for Blount County early Sunday and set out to deliver a welcome dose of Christmas cheer to homebound Blount County residents in need.
This completes distribution of food and toys, continuing a process begun Saturday when recipients who were able to do so picked up their packages at the Tennessee Army National Guard Armory.
Tony Clark, an Empty Pantry Fund volunteer from boyhood and current EPF treasurer, continued his annual tradition of delivering food and toys Sunday after spending a full day with Saturdayâs distribution â an adaptation to EPFâs normal procedure of delivering all the packages on the Sunday before Christmas.
