Pueblo police officer facing assault charges may be lowered due to lack of evidence

On July 25, 2020, a party was held on Quincy Street in Pueblo, and the next day, a criminal investigation began. The investigation was to see if a Pueblo police officer was involved in a serious assault that night at the party, and if he was involved, how much of the victim s bodily injury could be from his actions. Bennie Andrew Villanueva, 32, of Pueblo, was charged with second-degree assault in November   a Class 4 felony in the bodily injury of Rigoberto Jimenez, also of Pueblo.  The case was filed in the 10th District Court of Colorado, but if a hearing scheduled for 11:15 a.m. Monday, April 19, does not go in favor of the prosecution, it could be bound to the county court, as Judge Thomas Flesher expressed concerns that there was not enough evidence to justify a felony assault charge.

Citizen Support Services building opens in former Pueblo Judicial Building

Tim Hart, director of the Pueblo County Human Services Department, expressed excitement in the building s opening. Having the two buildings across the street helps us with efficiencies in our operations, He said, noting that it allows for easier transfers of mail, faster meeting times and easier interactions for customers who may be interacting with the offices for the first time. If they need another service, it s just across the street. We ve been aiming for this campus for a while. The 10th Street building was formerly the county s judicial building, prior to the opening of the Dennis Maes Judicial Building at 501 Elizabeth St. in 2014. Now, it will house offices for food assistance, Medicaid, Adult Financial Aid, and adult programs and Child Support programs. These services were previously housed in the Wells Fargo building at 201 W. Eighth St.
