Victim identified after remains found in suitcases in Denver, officials say

Police are investigating after the remains of a man were discovered inside two suitcases near the Sanderson Gulch Trail in the Mar Lee neighborhood of Denver.

DENVER â Authorities have identified a man found dead inside two suitcases in Denver last month.
Joshua Lockard s remains were discovered about 8 a.m. on Dec. 29 near the 1700 block of South Java Way, according to the Denver Office of the Medical Examiner. The coroner s office is still working to determine how Lockard died.
On a recent weekday afternoon, residents of the safe-camping site set up in a church parking lot at 16th Avenue and Pearl Street sat in chairs placed in a semi-circle, cracking jokes, telling stories and smoking cigarettes.
The group varied widely in age, but its members shared a positive energy. One came out of her tent wearing a Cat in the Hat costume; others played fetch with a pet dog. While they chatted, a few talked about working on their sobriety, while others related how their feelings of anxiety had dropped since they d been sleeping at the safe-camping site next to the Denver Community Church.

Tameka Lanise Dudley, 44, faces charges of first-degree murder, aggravated robbery, first-degree burglary, second-degree burglary and first-degree aggravated motor vehicle theft. Dudley was taken into custody Thursday near South Parker Road and East Iliff Avenue.
Another suspect, 38-year-old Joshua Hamm, was arrested Monday, as the incident unfolded just after 11:20 a.m.
A third suspect was shot and killed by police during the incident as he attempted to carjack three vehicles, the third of which he successfully got inside.
A homeowner was killed during the incident in the 900 block of North Monaco. A neighbor had reported that the homeowner was being assaulted by three men.
Denver Police confirmed that human remains were discovered in two suitcases in the Mar Lee neighborhood Tuesday morning.
The Denver Office of the Medical Examiner determined on Wednesday that the remains belonged to a recently deceased adult white male, said Denver Police Department Lt. Matt Clark.
Information about the cause and manner of death will be released by the medical examiner at a later date.
City workers from Denver s Parks and Recreation Department were plowing sidewalks near the Sanderson Gulch area at 7:15 a.m. Tuesday, and found two suitcases in the 1700 block of South Java Way.
The workers briefly inspected the suitcases, which were found on the west side of the street, and later contacted DPD about a suspicious bag.
