New Metro Denver Mask Orders Unmasked Shoppers Update

Within minutes of entering a King Soopers in the southwest suburbs the other day, I spotted two men without the face coverings necessitated for so long by the COVID-19 pandemic and required by the store. One was an elderly fellow wandering through the produce section on what appeared to be a futile search for a random vegetable he couldn t find or possibly even recognize. The other was a strapping, broad-shouldered dude in his thirties dressed from head to toe in camouflage who made eye contact with masked shoppers while invading their space. His expression was somewhere between a half-smile and a smirk.

Driven by older students, Colorado K-12 COVID-19 outbreaks jump by 28% in a week

The number of active K-12 school COVID outbreaks identified this year in Colorado rose by 28% over the past week, affecting nearly 400 new students. As of last week the state had identified 149 active outbreaks this year in Colorado s K-12 schools. But that number rose to 191 on Wednesday, according to data published weekly by the state Department of Public Health and Environment. Now 1,637 students have been infected as a result of those outbreaks, plus 172 staff members.  K-12 outbreaks now account for nearly a quarter of the state s 779 clusters. The sharp rise in the number of cases and outbreaks comes as the state continues to grapple with a fourth wave of infections. That trend is driven by variants, and the K-12 cases are what could be expected given the recent spike, state officials have said.

3,000 of Denver s 6,000 homeless have received 1 COVID-19 shot

“We immediately schedule follow-up clinics three or four weeks later depending on what vaccine it is,” Rowan said. “We realized that we needed to schedule a couple of follow-up appointments because not everybody is going to necessarily be there on the day of the follow-up.” Shelters have received priority for vaccination clinics because of numerous COVID-19 outbreaks over the past year. “This is a congregate setting,” Rowan explained. “People are sleeping just feet away from each other, eating close to each other and we’ve seen outbreaks in shelters.” Despite the Johnson and Johnson vaccine providing an easier option for administration and planning, its use was paused about two weeks ago per CDC recommendation.
