Potentially deadly blue-green algae found at Sloan s Lake

and last updated 2021-07-09 18:57:13-04 DENVER – Dog walkers should make sure their pets avoid the water at Sloan’s Lake after Denver public health officials detected potentially deadly blue-green algae blooms at the popular spot this week. The Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE) has already posted signs warning people not to let their pets drink or play in the water, after tests came back positive for the toxin. The blue-green algae can poison not only dogs, cats, livestock, wildlife, birds, and fish, but also humans, causing neurologic problems and liver failure, leading to death, city health department officials said in a news release.

Will the COVID delta variant affect the MLB All Star game?

“As with any situation, if you are not vaccinated the [Delta] variant and COVID in general presents an extreme risk to you,” Hancock said. “And it’s important that, as you come to engage with crowds, that you protect yourself and those around you.” In addition to the vaccination rate, Denver’s Department of Public Health and Environment reports the city’s positivity rate is below 2%, with case counts and hospitalizations remaining low. DDPHE Executive Director Bob McDonald said he does not expect an outbreak in Denver following the All Star game. “For a number of weeks now things have been opening in indoor and outdoor settings and we haven’t seen an uptick in cases, largely due to the vaccination rate. I’m not concerned about MLB week,” he said.
