EDITORIAL: Take a Democrat s advice and return to the office

Denver Mayor Michael Hancock wants his once-thriving city back. As such, the refreshingly pragmatic Democrat this week implored downtown employees to return to their offices. It is easy to understand his motive. Professionals downtown generate sales tax dollars with every coffee shop, restaurant and parking meter transaction. They support retail businesses and jobs, each one crucial to maintaining the physical, mental, and environmental well-being of Colorado. A group of downtown business owners and the Downtown Business Partnership joined Hancock in his plea on Wednesday. Business and government leaders throughout the state should follow their lead and advocate the restoration of normalcy in business districts throughout the state.

Colorado, Justice Department reach resolution to Trump-era lawsuit over immigration

The state of Colorado and the U.S. Department of Justice have agreed to end a lawsuit over the immigration-related conditions that the Trump administration placed on law enforcement funding, after both parties last month asked a federal judge to rescind his finding of a constitutional violation. U.S. District Court Senior Judge John L. Kane, in an order issued on Tuesday, agreed to amend his judgment from last year that the Justice Department’s requirement for states and localities to cooperate with the federal government on immigration enforcement infringed on Congress’s spending authority. Kane rescinded the finding “to avoid the unnecessary resolution of a constitutional question.”

Roundup: Food waste back in the spotlight

Send us your tips or feedback at [email protected]. Stop Food Waste Day 2021 Wednesday marked the annual Stop Food Waste Day, as public- and private-sector partners turned attention to the 30% to 40% of U.S. food supply that goes to waste, per U.S. Department of Agriculture figures. That loss sets the nation back on goals to reduce hunger and food insecurity and often sends food to degrade in landfills, where it releases greenhouse gas emissions and contributes to global warming.
