Good Vibes Only from the Long Center will feature emerging Austin acts

Austin 360 This spring the Long Center is encouraging Good Vibes Only with a free streaming concert series featuring established and emerging Austin talent.  According to a news release, the series will evoke the groovy feel of a 1960s variety show while highlighting the work of independent Austin artists.  The series kicks off Feb 10 with a performance from Sun June and continues through April 7 with sets from Sweet Spirit, Montopolis, Datura and Scott Strickland.  The Long Center s newly appointed vice president of programs and community outreach, Bobby Garza, said he hopes the series, filmed in the center s Rollins Studio, will transform into a fully-immersive variety show experience as we bring Good Vibes Only live as soon as it’s safe to do so.”

p1nkstar s Girls Like Us : Hotel Vegas streaming series premieres

In the beginning, p1nkstar was a legend in her own mind.  Before she became an ATX queer nightlife sensation, before she released her fantastic 2020 debut EP, before she produced and starred in “Girls Like Us” the sizzling new video showcase of transgender Texas talent that premieres Thursday night  the 26-year-old singer, promoter and performance artist decided she would become “a hyperqueer pop superstar,” because (obviously) the world needed one.  “That is something that I hadn t seen growing up in Mexico,” she said during a recent episode of Austin360’s streaming show, the Monday Music Mashup. As a fine arts student at the University of Texas, she was captivated by the idea of a pop icon portrayed in a light where it was “celebrated to be queer, celebrated to be gender nonconforming,” she said. 

Vans custom shoe to support COVID-19 relief for Austin music scene

Austin 360 In the early days of the pandemic, with Austin s music scene already reeling from the economic devastation of lost South by Southwest income followed by prolonged closures, skate-wear company Vans worked with the Mohawk on a custom design to benefit the Red River Cultural District venue s displaced staff.  Now the iconic brand is at it again.  As part of its Foot the Bill program benefitting small businesses, Vans released a special limited edition design with the Red River Cultural District. The design places the RRCD logo in red on a black pair of custom Era skate shoes ($90) or a black T-shirt ($30). One hundred percent of the net proceeds from sales of the gear goes directly to the RRCD. 

Seismic Dance Event in Austin: Lineup released for live event in May

Austin 360 But Austin promoter RealMusic Events is gambling on a brighter situation by late spring. Earlier this month, the company announced plans for a three-day dance music event to take place May 21-24 in Southeast Austin.  According to a news release about the event, the company has been keeping an optimistic eye on the future while also diligently working with officials and safety teams on their event protocols. The event will be primarily outdoors, a representative said. The festival website describes the location as more than 7 acres of land with a pod/section-based format at each stage. The address provided tracks to Planeta nightclub on Burleson Road. According to the website, attendance will be capped at 2,500.
