New South Wales extends lockdown by a week

NSW has recorded 27 new locally acquired Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours to 8pm yesterday and its lockdown is being extended. Greater Sydney s lockdown has been extended for another week - until 12:01am on July 17. The social distancing restrictions in regional areas have also been extended. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian said the decision to extend lockdown was a difficult one. We appreciate and understand the stress this means for individuals, for families and, of course, for businesses. But what would be far worse is being in a situation where you have to live in and out of lockdown until that period of time when we have the vaccine available to us, she said.

The Recorder - Secrecy at the State House

Secrecy at the State House Published: 4/8/2021 9:06:30 AM Despite our state’s reputation as a progressive stronghold, the Massachusetts State House is broken, and doesn’t pass valuable legislation that’s supported by a majority of the people. Conservatives in the House (including some long-term Democrats) use a “secret weapon” to block progress that weapon is secrecy itself. The Massachusetts State House is one of the least transparent in the country, and it’s time for a change. Hugely popular bills disappear into committees in the House and die there, without any votes being made public. Many state residents don’t realize that most votes in the House aren’t recorded (shocking, but true). Often it’s a “voice vote” on the floor or in committees, meaning there is no way to hold our representatives accountable.
