Leroy Hargrave case update: Police investigate Savannah disappearance

Authorities in coastal Georgia say they are still investigating the death of a Houma man whose remains were identified last week.  Forensic testing identified the remains as belonging to 34-year-old Leroy Peter Hargrave Jr., who was reporting missing in 2017. His body was found 2018 near Old Fort Jackson, downriver from downtown Savannah, authorities said.  However, the cause of death remains unknown, said Chatham County Police spokeswoman Betsy Nolen.  “He was reported missing in May 2017 and his body was found in July 2018,” Nolen said in a telephone interview. “The remains then went to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. They had to undergo extensive forensic testing, and that process takes time.

His vessel had reportedly experienced an engine failure, leaving him stranded overnight in shallow water, according to the Coast Guard.A Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries boat crew was then able to reach Dardar to further assist and reported no medical concerns.

Terrebonne sheriff administers oath of office to NAACP officers Terrebonne Parish Sheriff Tim Soignet became the first elected official to administer the oath of office to members of the Terrebonne NAACP Executive Board.  The president, vice president, secretary, treasurer and members of the executive committee were sworn in at the NAACP headquarters in Houma last week.   The organization holds an election every two years and newly elected officers take the oath of office at the beginning of the year, Terrebonne NAACP President Jerome Boykin said.  Boykin said he invited the sheriff to administer the oath because of his fairness and concern shown to the community.

Two Houma Men Arrested for Distribution of Child Pornography February 5, 2021 Attorney General Jeff Landry announced the arrest of two Terrebonne Parish men charged with distributing sexual abuse images and videos of children.   Chad Leblanc, 21 of Houma, was arrested and charged with 30 counts of Pornography Involving Juveniles Under the Age of Thirteen (possession) and two counts of Pornography Involving Juveniles Under the Age of Thirteen (distribution).   Jeremiah Rowland, 31 of Houma, was arrested and charged with seven counts of Pornography Involving Juveniles Under the Age of Thirteen (distribution).   “My office is committed to using every tool legally available to pursue child predators,” said Attorney General Landry. “I applaud my Cyber Crime Unit for the work they do to protect Louisiana’s children.”
