An autopsy conducted at Terre Haute Regional Hospital on March 2, 2021, by Forensic Pathologist, Dr. Dele Adeagbo, revealed that the cause of death for 35-year-old Michael J. Phipps was a combination of thermal exposure, carbon monoxide inhalation, and smoke inhalation. An autopsy conducted on 2-month-old Nettie L. Phipps revealed that the cause of death was a combination of thermal exposure and carbon monoxide inhalation.

(WTWO/WAWV) – Terre Haute Regional Hospital and HSHS St. Anthony’s Memorial Hospital reported Friday that they have been awarded an ‘A’ from The Leapfrog Group’s spring 2021 Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade, the only area hospitals to receive the watchdog organization’s highest grade. Leapfrog assigns an ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘C’, ‘D’ or ‘F’ grade to general hospitals across the country based on their performance in preventing medical errors, injuries, accidents, infections, and other harm to patients in their care. Of the more than 2,600 hospitals graded nationwide, only 33% earned an “A” grade for meeting some of the industry’s highest standards.

Vehicle catches fire when driver rolls it trying to negotiate curve, woman hospitalized

(WTWO/WAWV) A female driver was traveling northbound on SR 63 failed to negotiate a curve and rolled her vehicle multiple times, resulting in her hospitalization, Sheriff Clark Cottom reported Friday. She was traveling at a high rate of speed when she lost control of her vehicle, which caught fire while she was still inside it. Deputy Justin Copeland reported the woman s husband had been following her, and with the aid of a passerby, pulled her from the vehicle. The driver was was identified as Gaila Thacker, 28, of Sullivan. She was admitted to Terre Haute Regional Hospital with internal injuries. Hospital officials have told police her condition does not appear to be life-threatening. Police developed probable cause that Thacker had been consuming alcohol prior to the crash. Charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated are pending.
