Terre Haute Humane Society wraps up Tail-a-thon event Thursday, over $41,000 raised

By Sadie All Apr 22, 2021 10:09 PM TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) Thursday the community donated $41,024 to the Terre Haute Humane Society for their annual Tail-a-Thon event. Staff with the shelter say that number can still grow, they will keep donation links open for up to a week. It was their goal to beat last year’s total of over $42,000. The Wabash Valley Community Foundation matched up to $10,000 of what was donated Thursday. Maggie Wheeler with the society says staff were surprised to see how much money was raised, but it’s thanks to a giving and supportive community. “It’s the community, it’s our staff, that make calls and contact the businesses, it’s our volunteers that come in and do the phones and greet the public. It may sound cliche to say that it’s a team effort, but it is,” Wheeler said.

Pandemic impacts THHS in-person meet & greets; staff sees benefits of online adoption tools

By Sadie All Apr 22, 2021 10:24 AM TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) The Terre Haute Humane Society, like many establishments, has seen a lot of struggles and changes over the past year. When the pandemic first hit, the society had to close its doors to the public. Since then, nearly a year later, they’ve slowly opened back up for adoptions with a new approach. That’s by appointment only, and interested adoptees have to choose an animal they may be interested in seeing, by the humane society’s online catalog. While this is one of many new changes amid the pandemic, staff member, Stacy Wilkins, says the online tool has actually been a bit of an improvement.
