President Joe Biden laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday to mark Memorial Day, mentioning the many “precious” lives buried there. Biden said:
“We must never forget each of these markers both known and unknown here at Arlington and far beyond represent a precious life. A son, a daughter, a mother, father, brothers sisters, a friend a neighbor.”Biden’s address came on the six-year anniversary of his son Beau’s death.
“For those who mourn a loved one today, Jill and I have some idea how you’re feeling,” Biden said

U.S. President Joe Biden paid tribute Sunday to the nation s war dead on the eve of his first Memorial Day as the country s commander-in-chief. We must remember the price that was paid for our liberties, Biden said at the War Memorial Plaza near the Delaware Memorial Bridge. We must remember the debt we owe those who have paid it, and the families left behind. My heart is torn in half by the grief.
Biden delivered remarks on the sixth anniversary of the death of his son Beau, who served as a major in the Delaware Army National Guard, including a tour of duty with U.S. forces in Iraq before dying of cancer in 2015.
In his speech on Sunday, Biden shared his memories about his so,n Beau, who was part of the Delaware Army National Guard. Beau’s unit was activated and deployed to Iraq in October 2008.
