The NAACP Bucks County will host a George Floyd Memorial vigil and call to action on Tuesday to mark the first anniversary of his death that saw calls for police and social justice reform nationwide.
The event will start at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Bucks County Administration Building (old courthouse) lawn in Doylestown. All are invited to join the vigil that will focus on ensuring the wellbeing of Black communities and calling for an end to the horrors of police brutality, the NAACP stated.
Floyd died on May 25, 2020, after Derek Chauvin, a Minneapolis police officer, knelt on his neck and back for more than 9 minutes during an arrest. Floyd succumbed to the injuries after saying repeatedly that he couldn t breathe.

The University awarded Commencement speaker Seamus McGraw an honorary doctorate.
At Delaware Valley University’s in-person Commencement ceremonies on Saturday, May 15 and Sunday, May 16, author and activist Seamus McGraw told the graduates, “I trust you.” He acknowledged the challenging times they faced while completing their degrees. Then, McGraw told the graduating classes that he believed in their ability to use their experiences at DelVal to improve the world.
Upper Southampton company crowned winner at Spark Bowl competition

A plastics manufacturing company based in Upper Southampton was named winner of this year s Spark Bowl, a Shark Tank -like competition held at Delaware Valley University in Doylestown last month.
Owners of five small businesses pitched their ideas to a panel of judges. The top three teams walked away with checks to support their ideas.
Undergraduate business students from DelVal worked with the finalists as business consultants, helping them prepare to make their pitches to the judges. Prizes were awarded to the student consultant teams who worked with the winning businesses.

President Gallo will be moving on at the end of the semester to accept a position as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls.
Delaware Valley University President Dr. Maria Gallo has accepted a new position as chancellor of the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. After the close of the academic year, Dr. Benjamin Rusiloski, DelVal s current vice president for academic affairs and dean of the faculty, will serve as interim president while the University conducts a presidential search. Dr. Gallo will be honored at the University s upcoming Commencement ceremonies on May 15 and May 16.
