Though they’ve received funding from the Bureau of Indian Affairs and CalRecycle to clean up their lands, illegal dumping continues to be a problem for the Resighini Rancheria. The 455-acre rancheria on the south side of the Klamath River in Del Norte County has been a prime location for dumping for more than two decades, Chairwoman Fawn Murphy told the Wild Rivers Outpost on Monday.

Jessica Cejnar / Today @ 3:32 p.m. Human Skull Found in Enderts Beach Area; There s Nothing To Indicate There Was Foul Play, DNSO Sergeant Says Deputies and Search and Rescue personnel plan to deploy cadaver dogs after a human skull was found in the Enderts Beach area Tuesday afternoon. A citizen found the skull in the area near Enderts Beach Road and U.S. 101 and called the Del Norte County Sheriff’s Office at about 2:45 p.m., DNSO Sgt. Ed Fleshman told the Wild Rivers Outpost on Wednesday. The Del Norte County Search and Rescue team will be investigating the area further “in the next day or so,” Fleshman said.

Crescent City Police Department: On 4-2-2021 the Crescent City Police Department, with assistance from Pelican Bay CRT, served a search warrant on a residence in the 1200 block of Douglas Street. Officers located 16 grams of Heroin, 8 grams of methamphetamine, 3 grams of cocaine, a shotgun, and ammunition during the course of the search warrant.

Significant slide activity continues to hamper Last Chance Grade

U.S. Highway 101 was open to one-lane travel Tuesday night after another week of landslide activity blocked the road at Last Chance Grade. Crews have been working on the road since last week, when precipitation caused the hillside above the highway to crumble down, blocking both lanes for extended periods of time. As of Tuesday evening, crews warned motorists of possible 30-minute delays overnight, as well as three-hour delays scheduled between 9 a.m. and 6 p.m. to allow for removal and prevention work. “We will continue constant monitoring of the slide and will provide updates here as we receive them,” Caltrans District 1 officials wrote in Facebook updates Tuesday. “Thank you very much to our crews, our slide catchment and those motorists maintaining patience and attentiveness for keeping the slide area safe.”
