A Small Dutch City Is Using Electric Cars to Feed the Grid

A Small Dutch City Is Using Electric Cars to Feed the Grid May 07, 2021 Electric vehicles are only as green as the grid that powers them, but they can help boost the use of clean energy by storing intermittent renewable energy in their batteries. Putting that into practice is complicated, but the Dutch city of Utrecht plans to become the first to make it a reality. The most popular sources of carbon-free power only work when the sun shines or the wind blows. That means finding ways to store excess energy in times of plenty and release it when demand outstrips supply has become a major focus for the power industry. As the cost of batteries has fallen, grid-scale storage facilities have started to become feasible, but the economics are still not especially attractive.

Researchers in the Netherlands Reveal Biomaterial Made From Algae – Sourcing Journal

Bio-based materials have been on the rise for some time ranging from faux leathers made from fungus to textiles made from trees. According to a research team led by Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands, “the most robust materials are those that mimic nature.” The researchers have pioneered the creation of a never-before-seen bioprinting technique… This content is for Annual and Limited members only. Living clothes: Soon, you may see apparels made of algae!

Living clothes: Soon, you may see apparels made of algae! By using 3D printers and novel bioprinting technique, researchers have printed ‘living’ materials which are tough, resilient and 100 per cent eco-friendly Amsterdam (Netherlands): For the first time, an international team of researchers from the University of Rochester and Delft University of Technology in the Netherlands used 3D printers and a novel bioprinting technique to print algae into living, photosynthetic materials that are tough and resilient. Living materials, which are made by housing biological cells within a non-living matrix, have gained popularity in recent years as scientists recognize that often the most robust materials are those that mimic nature. The research is published in the journal Advanced Functional Materials.
