(WDAM) - Perry Central High School teacher Andrea McSwain earned the Woman of Distinction Award for 2021. McSwain was awarded the honor by the Alpha Alpha Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an organization that promotes professional and personal growth of women educators. “We are essentially chosen by other members to join the society based on what they kind of see in us, that spark, who maybe exhibit almost like the ideal of what it means to excel in education,” McSwain said.

Delta Kappa Gamma to offer scholarships

The Delta Kappa Gamma Society International will offer two scholarships to college students in Tuscarawas, Harrison or Coshocton counties.

Alpha Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma offers $1,000 scholarship | News, Sports, Jobs

Jan 21, 2021 The Alpha Xi Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International, an honorary association of women educators, will award one $1,000 scholarship in spring 2021. Applicants for the DKG Future Educator Scholarship must be enrolled full- or part-time in a college program leading to a degree in education; have junior or senior status with a minimum 3.0 GPA; and have earned a diploma from a high school in Alpena, Montmorency, or Presque Isle County. Applicants who attended Alpena Community College prior to transferring to a college of education and currently reside in the three-county area served by Alpha Xi will also be considered.

December meeting of Beta Zeta - women educators

Beta Zeta Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma Society International held its third virtual meeting in December recently. Members participating included: Kim Beek, Nan Bretz, Suzanne Geis, Ann Hange, Mary Heisler, Millie Holzer, Nancy Miller, Helene Moog, Deb Opdycke, Candi Overmyer, Janet Steffy, Jan Strauss and Bev Wittes. The business meeting included approving minutes and treasurer’s report, reports from committees and a discussion of how the group can help the Adriel Foster Care program. Beta Zeta will donate money to the program and individuals may donate through Adriel’s Amazon wish list. Beta Zeta will meet again in March, either in person at Northwest State Community College, or through another virtual meeting. Bob DeWille with the Mat Weaver’s Ministry will be the presenter.
