“Any person joining Delta in the future – future employees – we’re going to mandate they be vaccinated before they can sign up with the company,” said Delta CEO Ed Bastian during an interview.

Delta Air Lines is requiring all new employees get vaccinated against the virus that causes COVID-19, one of the first U.S. companies to mandate the shots.
“Delta will require all new hires in the U.S. to be vaccinated against COVID-19, unless they qualify for an accommodation,” the company said in a statement.
The requirement will protect Delta’s employees and customers, ensuring the airline can safely operate as the number of fliers rise, the company said.
“I’m not going to mandate and force people if they have some specific reason why they don’t want to get vaccinated, but I’m going to strongly encourage them and make sure they understand the risks to not getting vaccinated,” CEO Ed Bastian told CNN in a recent interview at the Delta Flight Museum in Atlanta, which is being used as a vaccination center.

ATLANTA - Delta Air Lines will require all new employees get vaccinated for COVID-19 before joining the company.
The Atlanta-based airline s CEO Ed Bastian made the announcement speaking to CNN s Richard Quest Thursday during a tour of Delta s mass vaccination center at the Delta Flight Museum.
According to Bastian, over 60% of Delta employees have had at least one shot of the COVID-19 vaccine. He expects that percentage to eventually increase to around 75 or 80%. Any person joining Delta in the future - future employees will be mandated to be vaccinated to be joining the company, Bastian said.

The new guidelines announced by Dr. Rochelle Walensky, director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, represent a major step toward a return to normalcy for a nation battered and at times divided by a pandemic that has lasted more than a year. Anyone who is fully vaccinated can participate in indoor and outdoor activities, large or small, without wearing a mask or physical distancing, Walensky said. If you are fully vaccinated, you can start doing the things that you had stopped doing because of the pandemic.
Soon after, Connecticut, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Nevada, Oregon, Pennsylvania, and Washington began to adjust their mask-wearing guidance.

Bastian explained that the carrier won t require existing employees to be vaccinated, because such a policy would be unfair. But he said there could still be consequences for employees who don t get vaccinated. For example, you probably will not be able to fly an international flight if you are not vaccinated because it s going to be mandated by local authorities in order to get into the country, he said.
