The supply of medical oxygen has become a bone of contention between Delhi and Uttar Pradesh as the second wave Covid sweeps through the country, leaving the healthcare system in many states swamped. Officials in Uttar Pradesh have denied Delhi s accusation of blocking oxygen supplies, saying their hospitals are suffering as Delhi took more than its share of oxygen last night from key supplier INOX. Now Haryana has joined battle, ordering police protection for its oxygen tankers, alleging loot by Delhi.

New Delhi: Delhi s oxygen quota has been expanded, an AAP leader said this evening amid a severe oxygen crisis in six hospitals with around 2,000 patients between them. Delhi has asked for states cooperation on supply after instances of tankers being blocked.
It was difficult to even think of the kind of numbers in Delhi today.

Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain today warned that the situation was critical on the Covid-19 front in the national capital. He, however, said there was no need to panic yet as there were several potential solutions to handle the situation.
Speaking at the NDTV Solutions Summit, he said the number of fresh cases coming in daily now is as much as the cumulative figure for months together. Sections of populations that escaped the last time, he said, are now being hit. Delhi is conducting one lakh tests a day, the minister said.

Satyendar Jain had made the request last June too, and reiterated it in a meeting chaired by Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan amid Covid surge across India.

New Delhi:Â In a meeting with Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan Saturday, Delhi Health Minister Satyendra Jain has urged the Narendra Modi government to accept that there is community transmission in the national capital, so that resources could be better used in saving lives, rather than focussing on testing, tracking and contact tracing.
